Here is the plan for our 4 day trip:
DAY 01: Pick up at the Airport and proceeding to Sigiriya. Visiting Pinnawala elephant orphanage. Night at sigiriya .
DAY 02: After breakfast, we proceed to Sigiriya and climb the Rock Fortress of Sigiriya, built by King Kasiappa (473 – 491 AD). The lion rock is a citadel of unusual beauty, rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle. See the world famous frescoes of the “Heavenly Maidens” of Sigiriya in a sheltered pocket of the rock. Overnight stay in Sigiriya.
DAY 03: Breakfast and hitting the road to get to Kandy, enroute visiting the Dambulla Rock Temple, which was built by King Walagambahu in the 1st century BC. Dambulla too is a world heritage site and is the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave Temples. The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq.mtrs of painted walls and ceilings is the largest area of paintings found in the world. Also, visit a Spice Garden in Matale.
Afternoon is reserved for leisure. In the late evening visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and thereafter witness a cultural show. Dinner and overnight stay at Kandy.
DAY 04: After breakfast do a city tour of Kandy – the last capital of the Sri Lankan Kings. The name Kandy conjures visions of a storied past, splendour, legend, folklore, mystery and traditions lovingly kept alive for countless years. Visit a Gem lapidary. Also, visit the Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, which was originally the pleasure gardens of the Royalty. Nearly 4000 species of plants are found in this garden and it is encircled by the Mahaweli River. Lunch at Hotel.
Want to enjoy in nature on a Tea plantation?
There is a possibility of visiting of NuwaraEliya, where is a tea plantation with the factory. NuwaraEliya is the location for one of the finest 18 hole Golf Courses in Asia. Sri Lanka’s highest mountain Pidurutalagala (8282 ft) is located here and it can be visited through a tour to Tea plantation.
This trip is only for true nature fans, and wildlife enthusiast who like to enjoy in the nature. The trip is not available all the time, but rather on the request, so make sure you ask a day before you actually plan your adventure. Enjoy in the high altitude of the highest summit in Sri Lanka, while understanding the process of tea making. Also, you will have an access to tea factory where you can see the whole procedure of making the tea.
